On Earth Day 2006, the decision was made to create the Natural Burial Co-operative, a company of Canadians seeking a more meaningful end of life transition. Our founding members share a vision of natural burial cemeteries across Canada that will preserve nature and provide a dignified and environmentally safe way of being buried.
This vision is founded upon a national co-operative business approach that honors;

Investing $25 CAD for a share in the Co-operative, members can purchase environmentally safe burial products, pick a plot in one of our natural burial cemeteries, select the tree or other plants that will commemorate your grave, and create a unique memorial from our many innovative methods*
Members of a co-operative are joint owners of the company, with a voice in how the company moves forward with its vision, opportunities to invest in those plans, and complete control over their own burial plans. As we grow, local members’ councils will be formed to help recruit more members and to guide our search for cemetery land that meets our needs.
* At this time, we are negotiating with a landowner to establish our first Ontario cemetery. The licensing process can take 6 months or more. In the meantime, members can purchase burial products from our growing list of suppliers. Watch this space for updates on cemetery and product status. Members will receive automatic updates via our newsletter .
Cemetery Locations
Cemeteries will be developed across Canada as land is found and funds are available. In most jurisdictions, you have the choice of how you are buried, regardless of the cemetery you have selected. If a burial is needed before we have cemeteries ready, you can pre-purchase your burial materials to be used in a conventional cemetery.
